This purpose of this repository is to provide homogenous access to the spectroscopy obtained by the multi-object spectroscopic surveys DESI, SDSS, WEAVE and 4MOST. At this time, the data for DESI DR1 is available, we aim to add the spectroscopy from SDSS soon.
All the data can be retrieved using wget, see the full listing of the files in the repository. We make use of the white dwarf naming convention of Gentile Fusillo et al. (2021) and (2019).
The DESI DR1 white dwarf catalogue files are available here and described in Swan et al. (2026)
The DESI data and diagnostic plots are available below, sorted by right ascension, see the example of the metal-enriched white dwarf WD J173134.32+370520.71 (=GD362).
The table provides the DESI DR1 information for the given star, a link to the DESI spectra (individual exposures and the co-added spectrum, in case that there is only one exposure, these will be the identical), the inspection plot used for the visual classification of the star, plots of the best spectroscopic and photometric fits (in this case a mixed He+H atmosphere), as well as a corner plot for the photometric fit. Links to all our model fits (H, He, and He+H) are linked at the bottom of the page.
The spectra are provided as ASCII files with the following columns:
Vacuum wavelength [A] Flux Flux [1e-17 erg/cm2/s/A] Flux uncertainty [1e-17 erg/cm2/s/A] Inverse variance Mask
The flux uncertainty was computed from the inverse variance, the other columns are extracted directly from the DESI data.
